ChildHope and our Ethiopia partner, CHADET, collaborated with Goldsmiths University of London, Brighton University, and Addis Ababa University, in a research study of young people's understandings of uncertainty, violence, poverty and rights in post-conflict and fragile environments in Ethiopia and Nepal. The 'YOUR world research' project ran from 2016 -2019 generated new knowledge about how marginalised youth understand and deal with these issues and how this may affect their rights and pathways out of poverty in impoverished fragile and conflict affected communities.
This participatory research project supported young people in Ethiopia to tell us about their lives and how they deal with uncertainty. We collected and listened to lived experiences of young people and gave them the opportunity to share their voice and speak about their lives and their futures. The research gave young people the opportunity to talk directly to decision makers and policy makers in Ethiopia about how they could be better supported. ChildHope and CHADET are using the findings from the research to guide and strengthen our ongoing work in Ethiopia.
The Youth Uncertainty Rights World Research (YOUR world research) has been exploring how young people manage the challenges they face, and the ideas they have to make positive changes in their lives. Together with our Ethiopia partner CHADET and Addis Ababa University we were the project partners for Ethiopia. This project was funded by The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)/Department for International Development (DFID) Poverty Fund.
