The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are led by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). They replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which started a global collective effort to tackle poverty. The MDGs established, for the first time, measurable, universally-agreed objectives for tackling development priorities.
The 17 SDGs build on the successes of the MDGs but include new development challenges, such as climate change, sustainable consumption and peace and justice. They place increased importance on issues of disability, gender and equality.
